Following last Sunday’s massacre at St Francis Catholic Church Owa-luwa Street in Owo, where lives were lost and many injured, the
International Strategic Management Institute (ISMI) has concluded arrangements host a Conference to discuss security challenges confronting the country.
The theme of the conference is: “Security and Development: Our Collective Responsibility”, slated for the Dome International Event Centre, Akure, the Ondo State capital on Thursday 9th June, 2022.
Speaking with journalists in Akure on Wednesday, the Board Chairman of the institute, Comrade Paul Yaro Jezhi, said the institute chose to invite professionals to discuss security challenges in the country and proffer lasting solutions to them due the high rate crimes in the country at its fourth Biennial Global Conference.
Yaro Jezhi said: “It is necessary to design strategy to stay ahead of criminals by creating awareness to nib crime in the bud.
“We need to use strategy to tackle insecurity and other vices that bedevil the country.”
In her address, the Chief Promoter of the institute, Dr.(Mrs.) Bisi Adanri, who is based in United Kingdom, wondered why government and the citizenry had been avoiding discourse on insecurity in the country.
She said: “This is the right time to talk about security challenges we have in the country as it affect all of us.
“Speakers will proffer solutions to the challenges at the conference while Conglomerates have exited the country and still exiting because of insecurity. No investor will invest in a country where there’s no security like ours.
“Then, why are we avoiding to talk about it. We are having sleepless nights, businesses are not moving.
“So, we will be looking into the challenges and possible solutions. Professionals who are versed in security will be at the conference to discuss the challenges and proffer lasting solutions.
“Looking at the impact of insecurity on the people, particularly the youth, we will weep for our country. The solution will be a process which the conference will provide,” she said.
The Director General of the institute, Dr. Christabel Nnaemeka disclosed that the institute would donate copies of a handbook enetiled: Teachers’ Retraining Master series” to teachers of primary and secondary schools in the state through the state government.
Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Ministry of Economic Planning, Chief Bunmi Alade noted that the time for the conference was apt judging by the shootings at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo on Sunday.
Alade said that with the attack on the church, a lot of people would avoid going to worship centres in the state.
