……Ondo state interest in political battle of Fayose, Makinde.
PDP Southwest Leadership Tussle; Charting the Party’s Future with Makinde or Fayose. —Doyin Okupe
The die is cast and barring a Divine intervention, an amicable settlement between Gov Makinde and fmr gov fayose, is an impossibility.
Several attempts have been made by leaders and elders at the zonal level. Efforts were also made directly by the national secretariat and indirectly by the indefatigable Bukola Saraki’s reconciliation committee. All to know avail.
This in itself is a strange phenomenon. The doctrine I learnt in my 40yrs sojourn in politics is that … no matter the problem between two or more groups, as long as the problem is strictly political, it is reasonable through consultation, negotiation and compromise.
The working tools of an astute politician are: oratory, ability to communicate and convince others effectively, negotiating skill, readiness to arrive at a compromise, wisdom, tact, flexibility, patience and a benevolent spirit.
NOT confrontation and rigidity or obduracy.
Strangely in Yoruba land, even issues of infidelity and adultery, which are very touchy and extremely trying, are discussed and settled between husbands, wives and offending partners!!!
Gov Seyi Makinde and Fayose are contending the leadership of the party in the southwest. A position which neither of them is qualified to hold, but for abberent development in our polity.
It was fmr President Obasanjo, who because he did not want his administration to be bogged down with petty issues from the state empowered the state governors to be leaders of the party in their respective states and zones.
This was a privilege enjoyed by fmr gov fayose to the fullest in his time. And until the proviso is annulled gov makinde ought to hv the honour of being the official leader of the party in the SW currently.
This “proviso” though an obvious absurdity, still stands.
I call it an absurdity because it will be unthinkable for gov sanwoolu of Lagos to say he is leader of APC in Lago, official or unofficial. But let’s rest this argument here.
As for gov Makinde, his attempts to destabilise established state party structures in order to establish his is wrong and this has created unnecessary enemies for him within the zone even among those who were not opposed to his leadership.
In tomorrow’s congress there will be no real winners.
The outcome of tomorrow’s congress will cause a permanent schism in the SW pdp which may seriously affect the future of the party adversely in the zone in the nearest future.
We as a people always refuse to learn from history. The dichotomy and lack of concensus in Yoruba land today can be traced to the sowing of the seed of discord during the Awolowo/Akintola conflict.
But those who fail to learn from history will themselves become lessons in history. And as the saying goes “those who the gods must destroy, will firstly be made mad.”
THOSE WHO HAVE EARS LET THEM HEAR…..Okupe said.
ONDO PDP & EDDY OLAFESO
Let me put this here for posterity sake. You may wish to call me an interloper and question my interest in a party I’ve since resigned as a member.
Overtime, I’ve grown politically to ever bothered myself answering such rhetorical questions. Whatever touches or tend to undermine the interest of Ondo state politically in a Congress of states, is my interest.
Today Ondo state PDP is in court challenging the appropriateness of an APC primary election because in their reasoning, the procedure contravened the constitution of the FRN; should I put the riding question?
It’s obnoxious and depicts absent sense of deep reasoning for anyone to cut his nose to spite his face. In this case, our face, the face of Ondo state.
If you hate the personality of Dr. Eddy Olafeso for any reasons known to you, then you should have raised another candidate against him from Ondo state and not conniving with Oyo State to short change Ondo state.
Posterity would hold you to account….

Southwest PDP Congress: Makinde in die minute rush to reconcile ex-Rep Majority Leader in Oyo
In a die minute rush, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is not leaving any stone unturned to pacify and reconcile with ex-Rep Majority Leader, Alhaja Mulikat Adeola-Akande ahead of the southwest congress tomorrow in Osogbo for fear of losing bloc votes in Oyo State in favour of Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, his anointed candidate.
It was learnt that the Governor is having an emergency meeting with Hon Adeola today in an undisclosed location to beg and reconcile with her with a promise to meet all her demands if she is ready to concede to his group.
However, unconfirmed report says All aggrieved PDP Leaders in Oyo pass vote of confidence on Eddy Olafeso
Some prominent leaders of the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party who are sufficiently aggrieved with Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State have passed a vote confidence on Dr Eddy Olafeso as candidate for the position of South-West Zonal Chairman.
The leaders including Chief Nureni Akanbi, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, Alhaha Adeola Mukaila and Femi Babalola.
They gave this hint while addressing the press in Ibadan, after a meeting on Sunday ahead of the zonal congress of the party in the southwest slated to hold on Monday at Osogbo, Osun State.
They directed all party delegates loyal to them to vote chief Eddy Olafeso and other aspirants loyal to the group of Dr Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State
