Worried by the incessant pollution of the waterways in the coastal areas of Ondo State, the Ondo State Environmental Protection Agency has constituted an enforcement team to tackle environmental offenders and ensure zero tolerance for pollutions in the coastal areas.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Honourable Oyeniyi Oseni who led the the team to Igbokoda said the inhabitants of the coastal area must not be exposed to dangers and health hazards associated with water pollution from petroleum products.
The Special Adviser flanked by the Administrative Secretary of the Agency, Princess Korede Giwa, also disclosed that a special team will be constituted to enforce environmental laws to fight against land degradation and other infractions in Ondo Central and North.
The team visited the Commanding Officer, Forward Operations Base, Nigerian Navy, Igbokoda, the Commanding Officer, Nigerian Army Command, Okitipupa as well as the Area Commander, Nigerian Police Force, Okitipupa to seek support in the fight against pollution of the riverine areas.
He maintained that the agency is poised at reducing the pollution in the coastal area in order to improve the health standard of our people and safe the aquatic lives in water ecosystem with a view to promote blue economy in the State.
