In commemoration of this year’s World Teachers’ Day, professional teachers in Ondo state have sought the implementation of 65years new Retirement Age and forty years of service; SUNSHINETRUTH can report.
They spoke through the chairman, Nigerian Union Of Teachers, NUT, Ondo state chapter, Comrade Victor Amoko as they celebrated their day on wednesday.
Comrade Amoko said the new policy which President Muhammadu Buhari had assented to in April this year had been implemented in some states of the federation including Osun, Ebonyi and Adamawa.
Comrade Amoko however appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the employment of One thousand, two hundred teachers by his administration and the promotion of primary school teachers to permanent secretary level.
While calling on the governor to employ more teachers for schools in Ondo state,the NUT Chairman cautioned some state governments against treating teachers as second class citizens.
Comrade Amoko who congratulated teachers for another celebration advised them to give their best in moulding future leaders.
Buhari: I’ll return teaching to rightful place
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday pledged to return teachers, teaching and the teaching profession to their rightful places at a ceremony in Eagle’s Square, Abuja.
Buhari, who was represented by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja, said his government had commenced full implementation of the professional teaching and teacher qualification framework standards that will impact education outcome and teacher performance at the pre-school, basic, secondary and tertiary levels.
He also said the government had started developing a verifiable database of teachers in Nigeria through the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), adding that the agency has registered 2,108, 342 teachers and licensed 1,250,000 teachers.
