The Ondo State Government through its State Ministry of Transport has come up with new safety measures for passengers, as it today launched Passenger’s Transit Welfare and Safety Scheme as part of efforts to safeguard lives of passengers who board vehicles at accredited motor parks.
Speaking with newsmen on Thursday 20th October, 2022 during an interactive session at his office, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, Barr. Tobi Ogunleye said the purpose of the initiative is to provide insurance cover for intra and inter state passengers at various motor parks.
The Special Adviser pointed out that passengers can now enjoy first aid medical treatment in case of accident and get compensation in case of death or permanent disability under the scheme.
He enjoined members of the public to take advantage of the gesture to protect and safeguard their lives
Other benefits of the scheme include efficient tracking and monitoring of passenger buses moving within and from Ondo State into other states as well as luggage tracking in the case of loss.
In his charge to park managers, he admonished them not to take advantage of the scheme for selfish purpose by increasing transport fares.
He also noted that government will deploy enforcement officers to ensure compliance to the directives across towns and borders of the state effective 24th of October.
“As a passenger, you are entitled to get one ticket once you pay and board at accredited parks in the state. This is not for profit making and it is not an avenue for any transport park to increase fare. The whole idea by the government is to safeguard lives.
“Every passenger is entitled to N100 cover from whatever fare they have paid.
“For intra state, the ticket is N50 while inter state is N100. The only time you make physical payment is for minors on a journey with you as a passenger. Make sure you get their details captured and you have a ticket for them at the cost of N50”, he added just as he charged passengers to fill the manifest with valid details in order to be able to benefit from the scheme,” Barr Ogunleye said.
