OSBPP trains officers on procurement process in Ondo

The Ondo State Bureau of Public Procurement (OSBPP), Governor’s Office, Alagbaka Akure, has organised a 2-Day training workshop for officers in charge of procurements in Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Ondo State.

In his address at the programme, the Director General, Mr Tolutope Fadahunsi charged participants to imbibe the public procurement processes based on due process and transparency as instituted by the Ondo State Government.

The theme of the workshop held at Mydas Hotel and Resort, Owo, is “Leading Procurement Strategy: Driving Value Through Global Best Practices”.

Speaking at the end of the two-day training workshop on Thursday, Fadahunsi said the biggest activity of government is procurement and as such must be effectively handled in accordance with laid down rules of government.

He said the State Bureau of Public Procurement would expect all stakeholders in the procurement value chain in Ondo State to henceforth work with a new mindset that upholds due diligence as captured in the procurement process for both tangible and intangible projects in Ondo State.

The Director General stated that it was the desire of OSBPP to ensure that the State Government has value for the money expended on its procurements, so that dividends of good governance would be evident in the lives of the people.

He particularly lauded the present administration under Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for always following due process in public procurement practices.

Akeredolu led administration in the state have taken a new dimension, stressing that government has been making openness, transparency, value for money and accountability in the procurement process a watchword.

He attributed the numerous life transforming and quality projects Governor Akeredolu led administration has executed across the state since inception to due process in contracts award, saying there has not been any failed or abandoned project under his government.

He particularly charged participants of the training workshop to imbibe the public procurement processes based on due process and transparency as instituted by the Ondo State Government.

“What we are trying to do is to build capacity of our people in the area of Public Procurements. We want to institutionalize due process in all our procurement processes and become a reference point for best practices. This is because the advantages of due process in public finance are immeasurable.

“So, we believe that all staff in government today should understand the philosophy and how to implement due process in public procurements. In any clime where due process is implemented, the people, the citizens and even the government will be better for it. So, this programme is very germane to good governance in Ondo state”, Fadahunsi added.

A participant and Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Information and Orientation, Mrs Toyin Onisile, who explained that training workshops have always brought a new dimension of knowledge into her life, also revealed that the OSBPP training would further ensure transparency, openness in the procurement process in line with global best practices to ensure people are better served.

On his part, Architect Charles Dahunsi, advised the participants to make use of the knowledge gained in their day-to-day procurement process to further strengthen good governance in the state.

Highlights of the workshop were lectures and paper presentations as well as presentation of Certificates to participants.
