Amoko becomes new Ondo NLC Chairman, As Ondo NUJ Chairman makes new Exco
The Nigeria Labour Congress, Ondo State Council on Tuesday, 7th March, 2023 inaugurated new executives to steer the affairs of the union for the next four years, as Comrade Victor Amoko emerged the Chairman of the congress.
Also Ondo State NUJ Chairman, Comrade (Prince) Leke Adegbite emerged the State Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, unopposed.
While declaring the 13th Quadrennial Conference open in Akure, the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu appreciated the union for supporting him to achieve the successes recorded in his administration.
Governor Akeredolu who was represented by his Special Adviser on Union matters & Special Duties, Mr Dare Aragbaye added that there is always a way to confront every situation with the best approach, stressing that his administration will continue to prioritise their needs with the judicious use of the meagre resources available to the state.
The governor further encouraged the new executive to always break new grounds, noting that his administration’s doors are always open to suggestions that will better the lots of the workers.
In his goodwill message, the Ondo State Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele congratulated the labour family for the peaceful conference and how God has been helping them. He also appreciated the union for their support to the state government.
While wishing the new executives an eventful and historic tenure, Ogundele noted that Ondo State has just started to witness a new dawn.
Com. Clement Fatuase, Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC) congratulated the out going executive for the successful completion of their their tenure. He also commended the delegates for coming out to exercise their rights to vote.
While appreciating Governor Akeredolu for his doggedness, Fatuase stated that Ondo State is the only state with a working government. He stressed that TUC and NLC are partners in progress and would continue to partner together to move the union and the state forward.
He however urged the members to support the new executives for the progress of the union.
The Minister of Labour and productivity, Mr Chris Ngige commended the union for their unity of purpose and peaceful coexistence that has brought about relative industrial peace in the State.
Speaking through the acting State Controller, Federal ministry of labour and employment, Mrs Olanike Mogboruko, Ngige charged the new executives not to relent in the effort of bringing about beneficial permanence to their members.
He also encouraged them to demonstrate the culture of inclusiveness, responsiveness and accountability and let all be given a sense of belonging.
In his acceptance speech, the new chairman of of NLC, Com. Victor Amoko, who doubles as the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, said that to every end, there is a new beginning, adding that he wholeheartedly accept the onerous task and trust reposed in him to lead the NLC for the 4 years constitutionally.
“I want to assure you all that, this wholesome responsibility shall not be taken for granted as I will do everything within my human capacity to defend this trust and ensure that this room is big enough to accommodate all interests as in the new regime, no one shall be left behind”.
“I and other SAC members plus other critical hands shall run an inclusive administration bringing on board brains that could contribute meaningfully to the administration.
“The shoes left behind by the former chairperson who today is the National Vice President of Congress is no doubt big but we shall try also to continue from where he stopped and sustain all his worthy legacies. I must equally thank him for midwifing the processes that led to our eventual emergence without rancour and acrimony.
“With your support, we can take the mountain and make the impossible possible. Please support us as we promise the government of the day our loyalty and commitment to excellent service.
“It is a new dawn where I expect positive constructive criticisms. Let us engage robustly and make the administration worth the while. We shall continue to toe lines of peace, law and order in going about our legitimate duties as leaders of workers in the State, We enjoin your cooperating and support as always,” Amoko said
ONDO NUJ CHAIRMAN EMERGES NLC STATE OFFICER
Also Ondo State NUJ Chairman, Comrade (Prince) Leke Adegbite emerged the State Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, unopposed.
This is the first time in more than 23years that NUJ will be represented in the State Administrative Council, SAC of Ondo NLC.
Other members of the NLC State Administrative Council, SAC, are; Chairperson – Com. Victor Oladele Amoko; Vice chairperson – Com. Obayoriade Adebayo; Vice chairperson – Com. Akinyemi Olatubosun; Treasurer – Com. Afolabi Oluwafemi Olusola; Secretary – Com Akin Sunday; Assistant Secretary – Com. Leke Adegbite; Internal Auditor – Com. Kayode Olorunfemi; Internal Auditor – Com. Abiola Oyewole; Ex officio – Com. Mrs Olufunke Ayelakin as well as Ex officio – Com. Mrs Oyindamola Akinlose.
