THAT BUNMI TUNJI OJO MAY FARE WELL IN THE 10TH BICAMERAL LEGISLATURE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
In the last twenty-four years; since the present political experience and democratic process began, my people in Akoko North had held on to the belief that the seat of the Federal House of Representatives should be rotated between the two Local Government Areas constituting the Federal Constituency.
Bunmi Tunji Ojo’s victory at the last electoral exercise that held on the 25th day of February 2023 demystified this widely held second-term impossibility myth, as he was re-elected for a second term to represent his people at the lower chamber of Nigeria’s bicameral legislature – National Assemby.
Prior to the election, various positions were advanced from various quarters while a lot of political shenanigans took place all in a bid to stop the re-election of Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo. We had a case of different folks with different yokes. While some premised their position on rotational agreement by our forebearers for their stance, some others only built on flimsy excuses that lacked logic and sound judgment.
On the other hand, the school of thought that I and so many other well-meaning and good-intentioned constituents belonged and still belong is of the view that performance should be preferred above puerile and sentiment-propelled rotational agreement driven by personal ambition and laden with chauvinistic agenda; as played out in the last election.
Without any equivocation, Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo’s sterling performance during his first tenure was strong enough to earn him a re-election. For him, it was payback time as the electorate voted massively for an unprecedented victory margin in the political trajectory of the constituency. The projects are massive and the coverage unbelievably wide, all within a short period of time. In one of my engagements with him, I asked him for the drive behind all these and his answer was simple; “Pastor, It’s all about the welfare of our people back home.”
My chief burden in this treatise is: What does a BTO second term portend for his constituents and constituency? We must understand that he would be returning as a ranking member when the 10th Assembly convenes and the implication is that he would be eligible to contest for any leadership position in the lower chamber.
Already, it is being mouthed by some pundits and political analysts that BTO may emerge as the next Deputy Speaker. This is not far-fetched as he possesses all it takes to function in this capacity.
My pontification is that BTO would play a strategic role in the 10th Assembly, my gut feeling tells me that he would be at the front burner of events and my ecclesiastical inclination suggests to me that Akoko people would be the highest beneficiaries.
I know him too well, I know his heart for the people and passion for the development of the Akoko Nation. I recall during another engagement with him; he said, he observed that every street in Anambra State has a millionaire and that his heart desire is for many millionaires to rise in Akokoland. What a golden heart! For me, this is the season and the time is NOW.
I think the time has come for us to raise our voices to God in prayers that BTO be well-positioned in the coming dispensation, so that he can do more for us. The Yoruba an adage that says irorun igi ni irorun eye should be on our minds. May BTO be well-positioned this time for the good of our land.
