The first convocation of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, OAUSTECH, has been scheduled to hold on the 25th of March, 2023.

The convocation will hold for five sets of graduates of the University.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa stated this while addressing the newsmen at a press conference held in the university on Monday.

According to Prof. Ologunorisa, 26 among the 982 graduates from the five sets made First Class, while 307 made Second Class Upper Division. For the Second Class Lower Division, 488 graduates were listed and 161 made Third Class.

He added that “the  University started with just one Faculty/School, which is the School of Science, and two additional Schools – School of Engineering and Engincering Technology, and School of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources in 2017.

“Presently, the University has five Faculties/Schools. Which are: School of Science, School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, School of Agriculture, Food and Natural Recourses, School of Management Sciences and School of Earth Sciences.”

He said that “the university has signed a Memoranda Of Understanding with some other universities outside Nigeria, like Jamaica, Cameron, Gambia, USA in order train the students as well as the staff of the university, adding that that the university is moving from a teaching institution to a research hub.”

He opined that the university is poised to produce man power for the emerging blue economy.

He further added that the university has collaboration with industry, government and universities and interface with them in order to be in line with the new trends in Maritime industry.

Prof. Ologunorisa revealed that “his administration has produced a 10-year Strategic Plan for the university. It will run from 2023 to 2033, stressing that the university has known what it will cost to put all the contents in place.

“Even my successor will not find it difficult to key into the plan. This is to enhance the development of the university within the period and it’s subject to modification.”

“In recognition of his success stories in the global business environment which he traversed scientifically with regal success, the chancellor of the university, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, CON, Olugbo of Ugboland, will be awarded Doctor of Business Administration (Honours Causa).

The convocation Lecture titled “Transforming the Nigerian University System for Graduate Employability and Socio-economic Development”, would be delivered by Emeritus Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan.”
