Ondo University Students oppose plot to hike School Fees, align with ASUU

NAUS CMC ONDO Opposes Unjust School Fees, align interests with ASUU

Greetings from the umbrella body of all Universities in Ondo State with the aim of promoting justice, peace and academic excellence. A consortium of active, vibrant and quintessential students’ leaders that is irrevocably committed and dedicated to students’ yearning and expectation with the aim to protect, defend and advocate for their interests.

As students’ advocates and supporters of accessible education, we strongly oppose any unjustified increase in school fees within the state and the federation at large. Education is a fundamental right, and it should not be a privilege reserved for the wealthy.

Unfortunately, in recent times, we have seen a worrying trend of schools increasing their fees without any corresponding improvement in the quality of education or facilities provided. This practice has created a huge barrier for low-income families and students who struggle to afford the high cost of education.

We call on all stakeholders in the education sector, including policymakers, school administrators, and parents, to prioritize the welfare of the students and ensure that education remains affordable and accessible for all. It is crucial to strike a balance between the financial needs of the schools and the economic realities of the students and their families.

We must remember that the future of our society depends on the education and well-being of our young people. We cannot afford to deny them this basic right by imposing exorbitant fees on them. I, therefore, urge everyone to join hands in advocating for fair and affordable education for all.

In conclusion, we as an association at this point align ourselves with the earlier demands and reason for ASUU strike over federal government’s refusal to implement a 2009 agreement on matters bordering on increased funding of universities and increasing lecturers’ salaries as this, (School Fees Increment) is just one of the implications on the Education Sector and the average Nigerian should the Federal fail to honor the agreement.
