Ondo State Government has threatened to deal with commercial motorcyclists (Okada Riders) for engaging in jungle justice whenever there are road accidents in the state, warning them to shun any of form of jungle justice.
At an interface with okada riders at the state Internal Revenue Service complex in Akure, the Acting Governor, Hon Lucky Ayedatiwa charged them to always allow the law take its course and desist from taking laws into their own hands.
The interface followed the recent lynching of 35-year-old ‘suspected yahoo boy’ Temitope Olorunfemi on Ijoka road in Akure for allegedly killing one persons and injuring six others in an accident, the state government met with all commercial motorcyclists to put a stop to any act of jungle justice in the state.
Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa who led other top government functionaries described the recent mob action as barbaric and said government will not allow any form of jungle justice any more.
Aiyedatiwa noted that arrest has been made as investigation is still ongoing to unravel the mystery behind the incident.
The Secretary to the state government, Princess Oladunni Odu and Chairman, Akure south local govetnment, Gbenga Olaniyi advised the okada riders to obey all traffic regulations to avoid unnecessary faceoff.
The Special Adviser to Governor Akeredolu on union matters & Special duties, Mr Dare Aragbaiye and Special Adviser on transport, Tobi Ogunleye advised them to always go about their businesses lawfully.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Akeredolu on special duties and strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale warned against the act of gathering and lynching motorists should accident occur.
Also, the chairman, Ondo state internal revenue service, Mr Tolu Adegbie said traffic regulations must be obeyed by motorists and motorcyclists to avoid accidents on the highway.
