Deep Port: Ondo APC lauds Akeredolu, calls for speedy action

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has rejoiced with the government and residents of the Sunshine State over the approval of a deep sea port by the Federal Executive Council, saying, “It is a dream come true”.

Chairman of the chapter, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, also lauded the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, for his doggedness and rare ability to change narratives.

Ondo APC also expressed appreciation to the Hon. Minister of State for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, for being a good ambassador of the State.

The party said it had been a deep desire of the APC-led Government to change the economic fortune of the Sunshine State, adding, “Mr. Governor, from day one, has always maintained that the wealth of Ondo State would boom from the sea”.

With a deep sea port, he argued, the State economy would be well stimulated, with job opportunities created for thousands of employable youths.

Besides, he contended, Ondo State would become an investment hub for diverse business interests, and the State would enjoy better attention from all stakeholders in the marine business.

Adetimehin commended the governor for not abandoning the dream when the going got tough, and pursuit seemed not realizable, but rather remained focused, and undeterred.

The APC chieftain described Akeredolu as “a goal-getter, who has unquenchable desire for breaking enviable grounds.

The party further hailed the pragmatic stride of Arakunrin Akeredolu in the health sector, particularly for establishing two Teaching Hospitals simultaneously.

“Ours is the only State in the South West zone without a teaching hospital. Today, our government is building one in Akure, and another in Ondo Town at the same time. The two multimillion Naira projects would be commissioned soon. We thank and celebrate Mr. Governor, for making us proud in many ways”, Adetimehin added.

The party appealed to all stakeholders in the Deep Sea Port project to buckle up for the task ahead, saying that activities ought to commence immediately on site, to ensure speedy realization of the laudable dream.

PRESS STATEMENT

ONDO DEEP SEAPORT APPROVAL BY FG IS A WELCOME DEVELOPMENT.

On Wednesday 17th May, 2023 at a Federal Executive Council meeting, presided over by out going president Muhammadu Buhari, granted approval for Ondo Deep Seaport operating license.

It is a dream come true for Ondo State, because, it is a project that dates back to 2004 when Dr. Olusegun Agagu was Governor of Ondo State.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter, congratulates the people of Ondo State for this welcome development that is capable of transforming the fortunes of the people.

The deep seaport will stimulate economic growth through direct job creation. It will require workforce to handle various operations such as cargo handling, vessel operation, maintenance, security and administration. Logistics and supply chain will all require both skilled and unskilled workers.

The opening for regional integration, transshipment and trade between neighbouring states will in no small way light up the economic environment of the state.

From conservative estimates, more than 100,000 direct jobs will be created when the seaport becomes operational. The infrastructural turn around, tourism and hospitality boosts are all direct fall outs of a seaport.

Mention must be made of the Honourable Minister for Transport Mu’Azu Jaji Sambo, and Minister of State, Prince Ademola Adegoroye because presentation of the memorandum at FEC rested on their shoulders.

Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, representing Ondo South at the 9th National Assembly also presented a bill at plenary in 2021 for the establishment of a seaport in Ilaje Local Government Area. His efforts too cannot be discounted.

Our party urges the government of Akeredolu to fast-track the due diligence that will make the seaport operational in the shortest possible time and not fritter away this great opportunity.
