Only Federal Health Workers are on Strike, Ondo govt’s Hospitals not affected —MHWUN insists

The Medical & Health Workers Union of Nigeria, MHWUN, has declared that its members in the State and local government public hospitals and other health facilities in Ondo State will not be part of a nationwide Strike called by the Joint Health Staff Union, (JOHESU).

In a Press Statement made available to newsmen in Akure today Thursday 25th May, 2023, the Ondo State Chairman of the MHWUN, Comrade Segun Ajiboye said only health workers working with the Federal Government’s health facilities and hospitals across the country will participate in the strike.

The Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), Ondo State Chapter had threatened that its members in the state will join the nationwide strike on Friday 26th May, 2022 and shut down public hospitals.

The strike action is not unconnected with the inability of government to implement all agreements made and entered into with JOHESU, particularly, as it concerns our union members nationwide.

However reacting, the MHWUN leadership in Ondo state under the Chairman, Comrade Ajiboye insisted that health workers on the employment of the Ondo State government and local governments in the state should continue with their normal duties as the industrial action did not affect them.

Ajiboye said, “COMRADES, THE ONDO STATE COUNCIL OF MHWUN WISHES TO INFORM YOU ONCE AGAIN THAT THE STRIKE CALLED BY JOHESU IS RESTRICTED ONLY TO FEDERAL HEALTH WORKERS.

“THE STATE WILL COMPLY FULLY WHEN DIRECTED OTHERWISE. WE REMAIN PROUD OF JOHESU AND ITS AGITATIONS FOR IMPROVED WELFARE FOR HEALTH WORKERS NATIONALLY. LET’S BE CALM, GO ABOUT OUR NORMAL DUTIES IN ONDO STATE, AS WE AWAIT FURTHER DIRECTIVES FROM THE NATIONAL SECRETARIAT,” Ajiboye said.
