**** Our youths must embrace skills acquisition for the downward trajectory of the alarming unemployment rate in Nigeria – Engr. Bally

An APC stalwart in Ondo state and Secretary of the APC PCC for Ondo Central Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections, Engr. Ayotunde Bally has charged the youths (undergraduates, graduates and corp members) in Ondo on the urgent need to embrace skills acquisition to drastically reduce the high unemployment rate that has left our youths amid the menace.

Ayotunde Bally who was speaking as the keynote speaker over the weekend in Ondo at the summit tagged ” SKILLS ACQUISITION THROUGH VOCATIONAL TRAINING – A Panacea For Job Creation” organised by Darkiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative for Undergraduates, graduates and corp members in Ondo.

In his speech, Engr. Ayotunde Bally spoke about the alarming rate of unemployment in Nigeria, leaving the country number one(1) in the world at 33.3% and second at 53.4% behind South Africa in the area of youth unemployment rate.

“According to recent statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the labour force population; those within the working-age population willing, able and actively looking for work have increased to 80.67 million from 79.9 million in the second quarter. The report stated that the number of unemployed persons increased by 555.311.”

“At this stage in our country, we need not tell our youths that government at all tiers does not have the required capacity of white collar jobs for all graduates in Nigeria, and the best aisle to focus our energy and resources on is skills acquisition through vocational training, to ameliorate the effect of unemployment rate in Nigeria which has become a hydra-headed issue”

“We have many skills that our youths can venture into to create jobs for themselves as undergraduates, graduates and serving NYSC members that will help them to be less dependent on government jobs.

“Today in Nigeria, fashion making, cinematography, graphic designing, floor tilling, and a lot more have become a big investment that has made some youths an employer of labour instead of seeking white-collar jobs that are conspicuously not available.” – Engr. Ayotunde Bally

Engr. Ayotunde Bally enjoined the trainees to explore the internet more as the world is going digital in business making, connection and marketing of products.

Engr. Bally congratulated the trainees for seeing beyond academic qualification alone by diversifying into skills acquisition to create jobs for themselves than waiting for the government.

Engr. Ayotunde Bally urged the trainees to ensure they give in their best during the training programme to ensure they turn the skills acquired at the end into value for the ultima productive at the labour market and supported them with the sum of three hundred thousand naira (300,000) in the procurement of various kits that will enhance their training and serve as a startup materials for them after their training programme.

Engr. Ayotunde Bally shared the podium during the summit with Prof. Nireti Duyilemi, Director, Center for Gender and Health Equity, University of the Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED), Vice Chairman of the Ondo West Local Government, Hon. Folajimi and other guests in attendance.

The event was held at the Secretariat Hall, Ondo West Local Government.
