Residents and motorists in Ondo State have lamented the deplorable condition of many major roads in Akure metropolis, describing the roads as death trap.
Part of the major roads who all in bad state are Airways, Oba Adesida Road along Ilesha road; Ile Aanu in Oke Aro along Idanre road; Danjuma By-Pass along Ondo Road; Odiolowo Danjuma area along Ondo Road and Oshile area amongst others.
This is even as Residents of Adebowale area to Aponmu road (old Ondo road) called for reconstruction of the less than 10km road that serves many communities in the area.
According to the residents, the unfavourable state of these roads have caused incessant hardship and damages on the citizenry.
Besides, they lamented that the several portholes on these roads have caused heavy damages to vehicles and given room for evil doers to effectively carry out their acts.
Mr. Lanre Adebayo, an indigene of Akure while speaking with Coastal Renaissance News expressed displeasure of Akure residents over the bad roads across Akure metropolis.
He said, “some of the roads mentioned above are very bad to the extent that residents cannot pass the roads safely. The bad roads have damaged several cars, hence caused a lot of discouragement for residents to even go out at will.
He appealed to the state government and Commissioner for Works to come to the aid of the people and fix the roads as a matter of urgency.
He further urged the government to make the road more passable by filling potholes and construct with asphalt laying where necessary.
The residents also raised alarm and lamented menace of flooding caused majorly by poor drainage in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State while appealing to the Ondo State Government to expedite action in tackling the incessant flooding in Akure metropolis.
Adebayo stated this while undergoing a flood assessment tour of the flood ravaging Akure metropolis of the state, urged the state government and Commissioner for Environment to find a lasting solution to the problem.
He also suggested that government should conduct an urgent enumeration of all affected areas across the major roads in the capital city of Ondo State and subsequently control the flood.
He stressed that the state has always be a step backward in terms of abandoned road projects and its preparations for the rainy season, urged that state government should live up to her expectations and take up her responsibility as a matter of urgency to evolve strategic methods that will curb the ravaging of flooding causing incessant damages to lives and properties of the citizenry and also improve the environment and ensure that the state is flood free and beautiful for residents
