No fewer than 296 graduating students were convocated at the combined Convocation ceremony for 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 Academic Sessions of Millennium College of Health Technology, Akure.
At the College’s auditorium on Thursday May 20, 2021, 96 out the graduands were conferred with Distinction in their various fields of studies during the 3rd Convocation Ceremony.
Out of the total, 96 graduated with Distinction, 78 bagged Upper Credit while 58 graduated with Lower Credit, 54 had Pass just as 10 others got Merit.
The epoch-making ceremony was graced by the School principal officers and other management staff including the Provost, Mrs Ayodele Adinlewa; the Governing Council Chairperson; Ms Caroline Ogunbadenusi; the Registrar, Mr. Awoniyi Samuel Sola; the Bursar, Mrs Alice Dupe-Balogun; the Librarian, Mrs. Samuel Mercy Kosoko, among others. Parents and guardians as well as friends of the graduands also attended the ceremony.
The Convocation witnessed conferment of Higher National Diploma as well as award of Diploma and Certificates on the graduands.
In her welcome address, the Provost, Mrs Ayodele Adinlewa explained that the graduands have been found worthy in character and learning, just as she charged them to keep the flag flying and be good ambassadors of the College at all times.
The Provost who particularly congratulated the graduating students and their parents on the academic success, also emphasised that the College would relent in its vision to produce quality, skillful and self-reliant middle level health personnel who are capable of making modest contributions to the National Health Development drives.
She encouraged the graduands to be focused, determined, take risks now and keep their minds open to possibilities as they forge ahead in life, adding that with the help of God they would achieve their potentials and accomplish their goals.
Adinlewa added that the determination of the College to ensure that students receive adequate knowledge during the COVID-19 pandemic informed the online lectures received by all students and this laid the foundation for the preparation of the students for their final examinations.
Also, in her Convocation address, the Chairperson College Governing Council, Ms Caroline Ogunbadenusi said in order to ensure that students of the private health institution are exposed to the best available training, the college has entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with various Federal, State and Local Government Health facilities.
She further said lecturers are regularly sponsored for in-service training and workshops to improve their skills and keep them updated on new inventions in Health Service Delivery.
The Governing Council Chairperson disclosed that the College’s investment on e-learning equipment made academic activities of the institution continue unabated even when the whole world was in total lockdown as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.
” No wonder the results of the 2020/2021 qualifying examinations for the final year students in our various departments show that our school ranked best in performance”, she added
Mrs Ogunbadenusi also used the occasion to applaud Ondo state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu، for his giant strides in the health sector aimed at improving the health status of the citizens.
She stressed that the College is on the right track and would un-relentlessly and strategically improve on the current standard and foster ahead until the college assumes the status of the best in Nigeria.
The Overall Best Graduating Student, Elizabeth Adedayo of the department of Community Health, said the reality of this dream is God factor and hard work, even as she commended the citadel of learning for equipping the students with the necessary knowledge and skills to turn fortune into reality.
“Let us not wait for opportunities to be created for us, we must challenge ourselves with the knowledge and skills we acquired from this institution to create such opportunities for ourselves, because this institution has really taught us how to be proactive in our various endeavours” she added.
Highlights of the ceremony were presentation of prizes and other gifts. There were also goodwill messages from other institutions.
