Major organizers of hunger protest under the group known as
Concerned Revolutionary Youths, the organizers of #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria has pulled out of planned protest in Ondo State.
The planned nationwide protest scheduled to begin tomorrow, was to enable Nigerians register their grievances against the harsh economic situation occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy by the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu led administration.
Briefing newsmen in Akure of the decision to withdraw from the planned protest, the State Secretary of the group in Ondo State, Ogundipe Seyi Olaniyi, said the decision followed the interventions of prominent indigenes of the state.
Ogundipe said the group was neither induced financially or intimidated, but resolved to pull out of the planned protest due to the interventions and security reports that some groups were preparing to hijack the protest to settle ethnic scores.
According to him, the planned protest has already achieved some its aims as President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has taken some proactive measures to address many of the issues raised by the organizers.
Ogundipe Olaniyi, said the group, Concerned Revolutionary Youths, has written to its counterparts across the country of its intent to pull out of the protest and continue to dialogue with government on issues of concern to Nigerians.
He added that the group in Ondo State has also written to security agents and concerned authorities signifying its intent not to participate in the planned nationwide protest.
“As such when Hon. Minister (minister of State for Youth, Ayo Wisdom) actually engaged some of the youths, the Deji of Akure engaged the youths, the government did theirs and most importantly the corps commandant of Amotekun, Akogun Tunji Adeleye engaged the youths and as such most importantly the youth leader of Akure, after rigorous deliberation telling us that some set of persons want to leverage on this protest to burn down some of the properties of people from the eastern part.
“Because of this singular act we have decided to put a stop to the protest and as such we will continue to engage and write the government. One of our demands is that there should be a price control . We cannot continue to buy things in this kind of hardship.
“Things are exorbitant. It is on this parameter that we will continue to tell the government our demand. As such, I believe some of our demands is being met because before few days ago the president ordered that they should send to dangote and I believe that if dangote refinery is it will ameliorate and douse the tension.”
