There is no report of hunger protest in Ondo State except a lone protester at NEPA area of Akure.
However, mild drama occurred unknown hoodlums beat up the protester who ran for his life.
Amidst fear of unknown, the ever busy roads in Akure, the Ondo State capital were on Thursday morning deserted as the August 1 hunger protests began across the country.
The popular Oba Adesida, Arakala, Ondo, Oyemekun roads located in the heart of the ancient city of Akure were empty without the usual vehicular or human traffic.
Also, all the government offices located at Alagbaka, including the Governor’s Office were all without any activities.
As of the time of this report, public transportation systems were operating at low capacity as most commuters stay indoors apparently out of fear.
Shops and markets in the state capital also remained closed as a measure to protect lives and equally protect their goods and properties from looting as a result of the protest, while traders and vendors deserted markets like Oja oba and trading centres.
Security personnel also were seen positioned at strategic locations and at identified flash points to maintain law and order during the protest.
Thugs Beat Lone #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Protester In Ondo
A mild drama ensued at the popular NEPA Roundabout Akure, the Ondo State capital on Thursday when an unidentified man on protest was attacked by some youths suspected to be thugs.
According to an eyewitness who identified himself as Paul, the man parked his Toyota car by the roadside and put placards at the front and back of the vehicle, before some thugs in the area attacked and flogged him ruthlessly.
Paul said, “The man was sitting in his car, he didn’t move about, he parked the car by the roadside, he placed placards on his Toyota car and sat on the car playing music.
“Suddenly, some boys appeared and asked him the reason for being in the place with placards. I think he didn’t respond to their satisfaction, this led to an argument.
“As the argument was ongoing, the boys brought out canes and started flogging him. He quickly rushed into his car and moved away immediately.”
Major organizers of hunger protest under the group known as
Concerned Revolutionary Youths, the organizers of #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria had yesterday pulled out of planned protest in Ondo State.
Briefing newsmen in Akure of the decision to withdraw from the planned protest, the State Secretary of the group in Ondo State, Ogundipe Seyi Olaniyi, said the decision followed the interventions of prominent indigenes of the state.
Ogundipe said the group was neither induced financially or intimidated, but resolved to pull out of the planned protest due to the interventions and security reports that some groups were preparing to hijack the protest to settle ethnic scores.
