Ondo illegal mining: Army, NSCDC record major breakthrough, warn communities

……Hands Over Suspects to NSCDC

In a bid to stem the tide of insecurity and truncate the activities of illegal miners in Ondo State, owing to its attendant negative implications on the state and national economy, troops of 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army (NA), arrested 26 suspected illegal miners operating in Ondo State.

The arrest was made on 3 September 2024, during a raid operation, following credible intelligence on their activities at suspected illegal mining sites at Gate, Modebiayo, Kokuma, Obado, Okesa, Amasiko, Adoba, Abanasiru and Obadonu communities, in Ondo West Local Government Area of the State.

The suspects were paraded at Headquarters 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment Akure on 12 September 2024.

The suspected illegal miners were handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command for further investigation and prosecution.

Items found in their custody during the arrest, which include; 7 mobile phones, 21 head pans, 4 cutlasses, 12 shovels, 12 painter buckets, foot rest/carpets and sack containing clothes, were also handed over to the NSCDC.

The clampdown on illegal miners, is a clear indication that troops of 32 Artillery Brigade, are totally committed to protecting Nigeria’s critical infrastructures and getting the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) rid of all forms of criminal activities and economic sabotage. The Brigade appreciates the good people of Ondo State for their continuous support to troops in the area of information sharing to rid the state of all forms of criminality and other vices.

ONDO NSCDC APPREHENDS 12 SUSPECTS

The collaboration of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State command with the Nigeria Army has led to the arrest of 3 suspects; Oduga Promise, 32 years old Sunday, 28years and Adebayo Segun, 18 years. They were arrested for illegal oil bunkering at Alape, Igbokoda in Ilaje LGA on 6th September, 2024, at about 0400 hrs.

Exhibits recovered were about 1200 litres of illegally refined AGO and a Toyota Sienna car with registration number Ondo AKR 876 NP.

For illegal mining, Kabiru Muazu, Male, 27years , Aminu Adamu, male, 30 years, Aminu Garuba, male , Buhari Lawal, Male, 25 years and Mustapha Auwal, male ,18years were arrested at Ogunlepa mining site Odigbo LGA on 3rd September, 2024 at about 1420hrs.

Richard Sunday, 20 years old, and Bashiru Abdullahi male ,20 years old, were arrested at Imafon in Akure North on 7th September 2024 for stealing and buying stolen goods while Aderinboye Adesola, male, 44years old was arrested at Oda town on 9th September, 2024.

Paul Johnson, male, 35 years old, was arrested in Ore, Odigbo LGA for vandalising and stealing 33kva aluminium cables concealed in a commercial vehicle going to Lagos.

While parading the suspects before newsmen in Akure, the State capital, Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye warned that his men would not allow the country’s national wealth to be plundered by some selfish elements.

He admonished the public/communities to always give timely and useful information to security agencies to rid the state from criminality.
