RUGIPO agogs as poly staff, students welcome Gov. Aiyedatiwa with fanfare

Reminiscence of February 3rd, 2024 of rousing welcome for His Excellency Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Executive Governor of Ondo State by the staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, was repeated on Monday 14th, October 2024 when members of staff and students of the foremost Institution came out in their large numbers to welcome Governor Aiyedatiwa on his way to Ikare Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko North/East Local Government Area Akoko in continuation of his campaign for the November 16th, 2024 Ondo State gubernatorial election.

In a show of affection and love for the Governor, members of Staff of the Institution waited in the rain for His Excellency. At the sight of the Governor’s convoy, the polytechnic community trooped out at the Polytechnic’s Main gate to thank and appreciate him for his intervention in the affairs of the Polytechnic, most especially in the area of regular payment of salaries as and when due.

Speaking on behalf of the three union leaders, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics(ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) Comrade Arikawe Ade reiterated (in his local language) the sufferings of members of staff which include the salary arrears owed and many more.

The Governor who could not hide his joy, thanked staff and students of the Polytechnic for their support. The Governor promised to offset the outstanding salary arrears owed the staff of the Polytechnic very soon as pleaded by the Union leaders who mobilised their members en mass for the mini- rally.

The enthusiastic staff of the Polytechnic pledged their unalloyed support for the Governor in the coming gubernatorial election.

The Chairmen of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Comrade Arikawe S. Ade, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) Comrade Saka-Olokungboye Nurudeen and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) Comrade Aro Julius Olugbenga thanked the Governor for having a stop-over to acknowledge the gesture of the polytechnic community and wished him fruitful journey to and from Ikare Akoko
