ONDO LAWMAKERS GIVE ACCOUNT OF STEWARDSHIP, EMBARK ON A SIX-WEEK RECESS
Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have today given account of their stewardship with a promise to continue to be committed to the programmes and policies of the present administration as this would enable citizens of the State enjoy dividends of democracy.
Giving the account on behalf of other lawmakers during a plenary sitting at the House of Assembly Complex in Akure today, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon (Chief) Olamide Oladiji, explained that the House had passed over eight bills in the last one year, while three pending bills are currently on legislative scrutiny.
The bills so far passed into law include: year 2024 Appropriation law,year 2024 OSOPADEC Appropriation law, year 2024 ODIRS Appropriation Law.
Others are: a bill for a law to amend the provision of Ondo State High Court law, a bill for law to amend the Ondo State House of Assembly Service Commission law,a bill to amend the 2024 Appropriation law, a bill for a law to establish the Oil Producing Areas Development Commission and a bill for a law to provide for the proposed year 2024 budget for the Eighteen Local Government Areas of Ondo State.
While appreciated other lawmakers for their cooperation and dedication since he was saddled with the mantle of leadership of the House, Oladiji attributed the numerous achievements recorded by the 10th Assembly to the unalloyed support he enjoyed from them.
The Speaker, who lauded the Clerk of the House, Barrister Benjamin Jaiyeola and the entire staff of the House for their commitments to duties at all times, assured that the various bills passed into law would in no small measure assist in achieving good governance in the Sunshine State.
Moving a motion for the Legislatures to embark on a six-week recess by House Majority leader, Honourable Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi and seconded by the House Minority leader, Honourable Olajide Oguntodu, representing Akure South 1 Constituency, the Lawmakers through a voice votes resolved to proceed on a recess with effect from today being Tuesday,5th November 2024 to 17th December,2024.
Declaring the recess,the Speaker of the House explained that it was necessary in order to enable members to visit their constituencies for campaign and sensitize people on the importance of exercising their franchise.
Oladiji later appealed to all political gladiators and the entire people of the State to tread cautiously throughout the ongoing electioneering campaign, during and after the election.
Earlier in the day,the Governor of the State, Honourable Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa gave assent to the four bills passed into law by the House namely: a bill for a law to provide for the amendment of the Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, amendment of Year 2024 Appropriation law, a bill for a law to provide for the proposed 2024 budget of the Eighteen Local Government Areas of Ondo State and a bill for the amendment of Assembly Service Commission Law.
