Adeya Foundation held Youth Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse and Cultism
On December 17, 2024, the Adeya Adedotun Foundation organized a Youth Awareness Programme on the dangers of drug abuse and cultism at the Ondo Boys High School Hall.
This impactful event, sponsored by Prince Adeya Adedotun, a renowned philanthropist and a respected member of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ondo West, was designed to educate young people on the destructive effects of these vices and to inspire them to make informed, positive choices for their future.
The programme commenced with an inspiring opening address by Mr. Akinlolu, the Foundation’s Coordinator. He stressed the urgent need for such initiatives to combat the rising cases of drug abuse and cultism in society, particularly among young people.
Prominent speakers at the event shared their expertise and experiences to drive home the message:
Mr. Ajimokin, representing the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), highlighted the physiological and social consequences of drug abuse, urging participants to stay away from harmful substances.
Ms. Omowumi Fadairo, a registered nurse and health advocate, delved into the mental health challenges associated with drug use and cultism. She emphasized the importance of seeking support systems and adopting healthy coping strategies.
Prince Francis Adetosoye, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, cautioned participants against negative peer influence and shared actionable advice on how to avoid recruitment into cult groups.
Prince Adeduro Moses Adeyemi, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ondo Division, provided insights into the legal and societal repercussions of drug-related offenses and cultism.
An interactive session followed, where attendees engaged with the speakers, asking questions and sharing their thoughts. This segment allowed for a deeper understanding of the issues and practical solutions.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt closing address by Mrs. Adejumo Fayokemi, the Foundation’s Office Secretary. She expressed gratitude to the speakers, attendees, and sponsors, while reaffirming the Foundation’s commitment to empowering youth through education and advocacy.
The Youth Awareness Programme was a resounding success, attracting a significant turnout of students, parents, teachers, and community leaders. It emphasized the Adeya Adedotun Foundation’s unrelenting dedication to addressing critical societal issues and shaping a brighter future for young people.
