The Chairman of Ondo state Independent Electoral commission Dr Joseph Aremo has announced that Ondo West local government election for the position of Chairmanship has been cancelled.

SUNSHINETRUTH News reported that the Candidates of the New Nigerian People’s Party, (NNPP), in the local government election in Ondo west, have called for the cancellation of the polls due to total omission of the party’s logo in the ballot paper used for the polls.
The NNPP Chairmanship Candidate in Ondo West local government, Adebayo Olumide Oluwemimo and the Vice Chairmanship Candidate of the NNPP in Ondo West local government, Akinnagbe Akinola Johnson, had told our Reporter that the party’s logo could not be found on the ballot paper instead old logo was used by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, (ODIEC).
Adebayo said, “our party’s Candidates, members and their supporters are in their various polling units to vote this morning because we are sure of winning but only to get there and realised that our logo is omitted and we can’t vote on wrong logo.”
The Candidates had threatened to take legal action if the election is not cancelled and the error by ODIEC corrected on their logo.
When contacted for his reaction, the Ondo State Chairman of NNPP, Pastor Peter Olagookun, who lamented the unpleasant development of omitting his party’s logo, called for calm as necessary step would be taken.
However Briefing journalists in Akure,
the state capital on Saturday evening, Dr Aremo said the cancellation became necessary due to complaints by the New Nigeria People’s party, NNPP that old logo of the party was used instead of the new one.
He said the commission only cancelled election into the championship position in the
local government and not inclusive of the councillorship positions.
The ODIEC Boss said the rescheduled local government Area would take place between the hours of 11am to 4pm today (Sunday 19th January, 2024.)
According to him, he said the materials needed including the new logo for NNPP would be ready for use at the rescheduled council election.
Asked if the rescheduled Ondo West local government election would delay announcement of results from other local government Areas, the ODIEC chairman said announcement of results from other local governments would start by 9am today.
He said the commission would be fair to all stakeholders including participating political parties in the local government election.
