
Co-tenants of the parents whose children were burnt to death, have blamed the mother of the deceased for locking them inside, says “they were locked inside the apartment by their mother when the inferno occurred.”
The incident which happened yesterday evening at Church Street, Oluwatuyi quarters, Akure, the Ondo State capital; SUNSHINETRUTH News gathered that the kids named Jeila and Jersy.
The two siblings aged between three and five year old.
According to an eyewitness who declined to give his name, “their father collapsed immediately he got to this place and was rushed to the hospital.
A Neighbour said “it was their mother’s habit of locking the children inside the house whenever she is going out. Witnesses said the fire began at about 3:30pm and consumed the innocent children.”
Other tenants in the building were said to have rushed to pack their belongings while frantic efforts were made to break into the raging fire to rescue the trapped children.
It was learnt that the fire has engulfed a large part of the apartment before help could reach the children.
Burnt remains of the toddlers were found at the entrance of the apartment after the fire was put out.
The tenant in the house who pleaded anonymity said people mistook the children’s cries as normal routine beating from their mother.
Policemen from the B Division in Akure were seen evacuating the corpses, while the cause of the fire is yet to be known as at the time of filing this report.
