AAUA students elect new SUG officers, as Ologbon emerges President

After a competitive electoral battle against three other candidates, Salami Akeem (Ologbon) has emerged as the 22nd President of the Adekunle Ajasin University Students’ Union (AAUASU).

The election, held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the university’s CBT centre, saw Ologbon, a 400-level student from the Department of Arts Education, secured victory with 911 votes.

Ologbon’s closest competitor, Elijah Segun (Cashio) from the Department of Computer Science, garnered 557 votes, while Ogundaisi Samuel from the Faculty of Law and Alfred Mosebolatan (Attitude) from the Department of Adult Education secured 126 and 62 votes, respectively.

The results were officially announced by the returning officer, Professor Simeon Odion Ehiabhi, who also serves as the chairman of the Students’ Union Electoral Committee (SUEC).

The election, conducted electronically, witnessed a significant voter turnout, as confirmed by data obtained from the Mass Communication Blog.

In other key positions, Olaleye Deborah (Mide) from the Department of Criminology and Security Studies emerged as Vice President-elect with 1,323 votes, while Bakare Jamiu Abiodun (Unique) from the Department of Linguistics/Language won the Secretary-General seat with 1,248 votes.

Olayemi Princess (Princess) from Political Science was elected Assistant Secretary with 873 votes, and Mercy Iyanuoluwa (Temmy’s World) from the Department of Social Sciences secured the role of Financial Secretary with 810 votes.

Other elected executives include Ajidagba Mosadoluwa Akinbobola (Mosa Gold) from the Faculty of Law as Public Relations Officer with 979 votes and Ogunsola Blessing (Incredible of AAUA) from Political Science as Director of Welfare with 1,187 votes. Adesuyan Rotimi Timilehin (Rostimarp) from Adult Education clinched the Social Director position with 1,261 votes, while Solomon Vincent (Kulbic) from Guidance and Counseling was elected Treasurer with 842 votes.

Additionally, Raji Afeez from Education Management secured the role of Director of Sports with 803 votes.

In an interview, Ologbon described the electoral process as free and fair, promising to carry everybody along in delivering on his campaign promises.
