War against malaria, Aiyedatiwa unveils Non State Actors of the IMPACT Malaria Project

……Says Ondo Health Sector now attractive to qualified Practitioners

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa-led Ondo State Government has on Wednesday 14th May, 2025 unveiled the Non State Actors of the IMPACT Malaria Project, charging stakeholders to live up to the expectations of both government and the people.

The Governor who spoke through his Special Adviser on Health, Prof Simidele Odimayo, expressed the present administration’s commitment to changing the narratives of fighting malaria and other disease that are  rampant in Nigeria.

The Special Adviser announced this in Akure, the state capital while addressing a Press Briefing shortly after the unveiling of the Non State Actors of the IMPACT malaria project.

He expressed happiness at the level of successes being recorded in fighting malaria, applauding the Aiyedatiwa’s administration for provision of anti-malaria drugs in all the Primary Health Care Centres and General Hospitals in the state.

Odimayo noted that the Non State Actors have demonstrated their determination to compliment the efforts of both Ondo State Government and other stakeholders in fighting malaria.

The Special Adviser who also declared the determination of Governor Aiyedatiwa to providing affordable healthcare for the citizenry, advised qualified doctors and nurses to apply for positions in health facilities across the state, assuring them of attractive welfare packages for them in the state.

Odimayo said the Aiyedatiwa-led administration had prioritised the health sector, particularly through the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres across all 203 wards in the state.

He noted that the government had ensured parity in salaries for state-employed health workers and their federal counterparts.

Odimayo said the present administration has not only employed more doctors and nurses but has also enhanced the stability of the sector by ensuring that salaries of health workers are at par with that of the federal government.

“The Governor is actually not resting on his oars as recruitment of more health workers is in progress just as training and re-training is also made a priority.

“The 250-bedded hospital in Akure has been completed while that of Ondo is being worked upon, assuring that the CT Scan at Laje in Ondo would be ready for use before the end of May this year.”

Odimayo who appreciated the initiative of Governor Aiyedatiwa to inaugurate the informal sector of the Health Insurance Scheme, said over 250,000 citizen of the state are benefitting from the scheme.

Earlier, the Project Coordinator of IMPACT Malaria Project, Dr. Waheed Afolayan had analysed the various efforts put in place to arrive at the Non State Actors as he assured that they are not only capable but also committed.

Dr. Afolayan noted that availability of anti-malaria commodities have increased patronage in the health facilities in the state

The Special Adviser led the Non-State Actors also visited the Ondo State Drug and Health commodities management Agency to commission the supplied drugs to the state by the IHVN team.
