Just In: Tension as armed herdsmen sack 4 Ondo communities, shot dead over 20 farmers

Report says that suspected armed herdsmen have attacked four communities in Akure North local government areas of Ondo State, killing over 20 farmers.

The bandits during the midnight attacks sacked Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, Ademekun camp and Aba Alajido camps within Ala Elefosan.

A community source told SUNSHINETRUTH News that the herdsmen have been attacking different communities and killing farmers unchallenged by security agents.

The source noted that 14 dead bodies were recovered in the last 48hours while researching for other missing residents continues, lamenting that over 20 people were gunned down during the night raid by the suspected  bandits.

Also confirming the attacks in a pathetic narration, the Regent of one of the attacked communities, Ademekun Village, Princess Adelowo Adekemisola, expressed sadness over the killings of more than 14 farmers last weekend by the herdsmen who infiltrated the areas and started shooting sporadically.

The Regent, when narrating her experience before the Ondo State government representatives at a town hall meeting with cocoa farmers in Akure on Monday 10th March, 2025, the state capital of Ondo State, said that her community had been battling with the herdsmen problem without security actions.

According to her, the herdsmen came through the Edo-Ondo boundary to attack them.

Confirming that attack only occurred in one community, the Ondo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said the police and security agencies are working hard to track down perpetrators and to protect other communities around Akure north council area.

PRESS RELEASE

RE: ATTACK ON FOUR COMMUNITIES IN ONDO STATE

The attention of the command has been drawn to a misleading report claiming that the police confirmed attacks on four communities in Ondo State and that twenty (20) farmers were killed

For the record, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ala received information regarding an attack at Sunday Camp, a settlement along the boundary of Ondo and Edo States, on March 8, 2025.

However, the Police Command never confirmed the killing of 20 farmers, as falsely reported..

The Command is aware of the attack on Sunday Camp and the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi psc+, mnips, has directed that the ongoing covert operation being carried out across the state to rid the command of bad elements be intensified.

The Command urge journalists and media outlets to verify information from official source before publication to prevent misinformation and unnecessary panic in the State.
