
To ensure food security and to further improve the income and livelihoods of Women in his constituency, the Senator Representing Ondo Central, Adeniyi Adegbonmire SAN on Wednesday, yesterday flagged off a 3 – day Garri Processing Training and Empowerment for Women in the senatorial district.
The initiative is part of the senator’s commitment to enhance the productivity of women in modern Garri processing techniques, improve product quality, and promote value addition strategies.
The programme, which was facilitated by Sen. Adeniyi Adegbonmire SAN is being supported by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in conjunction with Federal University of Agriculture,Abeokuta.
Speaking with journalists during the training, which was held in Akure the state capital, Adegbonmire, who was represented by his Senior Legislative Aide Hon. Akinloye Bolarinde said the training will endow the women with the required skills needed to boost their productivity and improve their livelihoods, which will, in turns improve food productivity.
Adegbonmire added that at the end of the training, the women will be fully empowered with cash and modern garri processing equipment, which will make them to be self sufficient.
In his keynote address, Prof. Jacob Olaoye of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta noted that the participants will be trained in modern ways of processing garri so that production can increase in hygienic way which will also give the women the opportunity to export their Garri through proper packaging.
In her own address, Senior Adviser to the State Governor on Women Affairs, Dr (Mrs) Seun Bosede Osamaye represented by Mrs. Oladiran Folasade, Director in the Ministry, commended the federal lawmaker for his commitment to women empowerment .
She described the initiative as a new development and life changing, which will go a long way in repositioning the women for better tomorrow.

The beneficiaries who are predominantly cassava farmers were drawn from all the six local governments of Ondo Central, namely Akure South; Akure North, Ondo West, Ondo East, Ifedore and Idanre thanked Sen. Adeniyi Adegbonmire for enhancing their economic status in the face of the country’s economic reality.
They stated that the skills acquired from the training will help to boost their income and help in supporting their families
