NASU exonerates Police over FUTA Staff Bus, Set record Straight on Union’s Leadership

…..Urges University’s Community, Public to disregard purported Protest led by former Chairman, Aladerotohun

PRESS RELEASE

RE: MISLEADING REPORT ON ALLEGED POLICE DEFIANCE OVER UNION VEHICLE – SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

The attention of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), FUTA Branch has been drawn to a misleading publication titled “Protest rocks FUTA over Police Refusal to return Union Vehicle” dated June 4, 2025.

We wish to unequivocally clarify that Mr. Adebayo Aladerotohun is no longer the Chairman of NASU FUTA, having been expelled by the NASU National Headquarters since 2019.

Furthermore, the individuals involved in the so-called protest are expelled former officers and members of the union who are now operating under an illegal and unregistered association named NANTS — a body unknown to NASU, FUTA, and any national labour Union.

The judgement of the Chief Magistrate Court delivered in January 2025 reaffirmed the rightful ownership of the disputed vehicle by NASU FUTA and directed that it be released to the union’s legitimate leadership. This order was fully complied with by the Ondo State Police Command in accordance with due process and the rule of law.

We reject in totality the false narrative that the police acted unlawfully or in defiance of the court. This is a calculated attempt by disgruntled individuals to mislead the public, undermine lawful institutions, and incite unrest within the university community.

NASU is a legally constituted and nationally recognised union, comprising responsible and law-abiding staff members. We remain committed to protecting the rights and welfare of our members through legitimate and peaceful means, and we disassociate ourselves from any form of lawlessness, impersonation, or theatrical protest.

We call on the general public, university stakeholders, and our esteemed members to disregard the baseless claims and remain steadfast in support of the truth and lawful union leadership.

Signed:
Comrade Adesida Adefolarin, Chairman, NASU FUTA Branch 5th June, 2025
