Approve take-off of Federal University of ICT in Ikare Akoko —NUJ begs Tinubu to assent bill

The Congress of the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has applauded the National Assembly for timely passage of the bill establishing Federal University of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.

The Union in a Communiques, however appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the bill into law without delay to ensure its quick take-off.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MONTHLY CONGRESS OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS, NUJ, ONDO STATE COUNCIL, HELD ON THURSDAY 26TH JUNE, 2025 AT THE PRESS CENTRE, ALAGBAKA, AKURE

The Congress was well attended by members across chapels and presided over by the Chairman of the union, Prince Leke Adegbite.

1. It deliberated on a wide range of issues, from politics, economic, security, agriculture, environment, state of the union, to welfare of members and resolved as follows;
2. The Congress lauded the National Executive Council of the union, led by the National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, and congratulated all journalists across the country, for the successful celebrations of the the NUJ 70th Anniversary.
3. The congress noted that Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, remains one of the oldest and vibrant unions in Nigeria, and urged its members to lift their heads high up and remain committed to tenets and ethics of the profession esepcially truthfulness and nation-building through responsible journalism.
4. The Congress appluaded the National Assembly for timely passage of the bill establishing Federal University of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State; and appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the bill into law without delay to ensure its quick take-off.
5. The Congress observed with empathy the escalating number of out-of-school children roaming the streets and begging for arms in all parts of Ondo state especially those moved from the northern part of the country; and called on both the state and federal governments to design a programme aimed at re-integrating them into the formal education system so that they will not constitute threats to the society in the nearest future.
