
The Odigbo Local Government Traditional Council has strongly disassociated itself from the proposed creation of a Coastal State, being orchestrated by Ondo South Senator, Jimoh Ibrahim.
In a statement released by the Traditional Chairman of the Council, the Ajobu of Araromi- Obu kingdom, HRM ,Oba Adelola Aderemi, expressed their disappointment and disapproval of the proposal.
The Senator had in Lagos last week during a Constitutional Review Public Hearing, proposed the creation of the new state.
According to the monarchs, “We want to make it clear that the Odigbo Local Government Traditional Council does not support the creation of a Coastal State.
“This proposal is not in the best interest of our people, and we urge Senator Jimoh Ibrahim to reconsider his actions.
“The traditional council believes that the creation of a new state would not benefit the people of Odigbo and would instead lead to further instability and division.
“We are not against progress and development, but margining us with coastal state will not be accepted.
The Obas’ council also questioned the legitimacy of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim’s proposal, stating that it was not representative of the views of the people in the area.
“We urge all stakeholders to reject this proposal and work towards the development of Ondo State as a whole,” the Chairman emphasised
The meeting which was held at the palace of the Ajobu of Araromi- Obu kingdom was attended by all the traditional rulers in Odigbo Local Government which included; the Orunja of Odigbo Kingdom, HRM Oba Rufus Akinrinmade; and the Akogbe of Ajue Kingdom, HRM Oba Bamidele Akinwe.
0thers are Akamuja of Igburowo Kingdom, Oba Nelson Akintolayo; the Oworofun of Lapahun, HRM Oba Solomon Adejayan ;the Olusan of Ayesan, HRM Oba Adebayo Bashiru Takuro and the Ajamolu of Oniseere, Oba Olafusi Johnson.
