Man in court retracts, apologises for Defaming Ondo Lawmaker, Hon. Komolafe on social media

A man identified as Peter Micheal has formally retracted and apologised for a defamatory post he made on social media against Hon. Temitope Komolafe, a prominent political figure from Igbara-Oke in Ondo State.

In an affidavit of facts sworn before the Federal High Court in Akure on July 8, 2025, Peter admitted that his comments regarding a ₦25 million solar project allegedly linked to Hon. Komolafe (a member representing Ifedore constituency in the Ondo State House of Assembly) were false and misleading.

The affidavit, referenced FHC-AFD-1751981719-54064, states that Peter had claimed on Facebook that Hon. Komolafe was involved in the execution of 20 solar projects worth ₦25 million under questionable circumstances. However, he has now confessed that the allegations were untrue and amounted to cyberbullying and stalking.

“I know what I did has affected his image negatively and I am indeed sorry,” Peter declared in the sworn statement. “I promise to be of good conduct and will not do anything contrary to defame his image again.”

He also noted that the affidavit was made voluntarily and not under any form of coercion, stating that his initial post was made in error.

He further requested that the Nigeria Police Force and relevant authorities take note of the facts presented in the affidavit.

The document, which includes Peter’s passport photograph, was submitted for official and legal record-keeping.

This development comes amid growing concerns about misinformation and defamation on social media platforms in Nigeria, with legal experts urging citizens to verify facts before making public statements online.
