Oluoke of Okeigbo Stool: Ondo State Government Denies issuing Letter to Aare Kugbaigbe’s Ruling House
The Counsel to the Ondo State Government has exonerated the Governor and Attorney General of the State from participating in the illegal selection of candidates for the stool of Oluoke of Okeigbo.
At the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure on Monday, 14th July, 2025 before Justice Omoleye, Justice Shagari and Justice Obiorah, the Government’s Counsel, Deola Yusuf guaranteed the Court of Appeal that both the Governor and Attorney General of the State were not aware and can never be a part to such illegality.
In view of the Counsel’s denial, Justice Shagari warned Aare Kugbaigbe’s lead Counsel, Sola Ebiseni to caution his clients and that both the Honourable Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs & Local Government as well as the Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government, Adebare Adeboye risk being committed to prison if they decide to disobey the Court of Appeal’s order for status quo to remain until the final determination of the case in Court.
The dispute over the selection of a new Oluoke of Okeigbo has raised concerns about the role of government in traditional institutions and the potential consequences of disobeying court orders.
The warning from the Court of Appeal highlights the seriousness of the situation and the potential repercussions for those involved.
The outcome of this case will likely have significant implications for the community and the traditional institution of the Oluoke of Okeigbo. As the case continues, it is essential for all parties involved to respect the court’s order and await the final determination. The community will be watching closely to see how this matter is resolved.
