The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), Ondo State Chapter, has expressed appreciation for Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s recent call for unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the state caucus meeting held at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure.
In a statement signed by the Director of Media, Oyewamide Ojo, GMT lauded the governor’s renewed commitment to party supremacy and inclusive governance.
The group described his call as timely and necessary for strengthening internal cohesion within the APC.
“We applaud His Excellency’s efforts in reaffirming the supremacy of the party and creating space for all stakeholders to be involved in governance. This is a welcome development that sets the tone for broader collaboration,” the statement reads.
However, GMT raised concerns over widespread misinterpretations of the meeting’s resolutions, particularly claims suggesting that all Tinubu support groups in the state must collapse into a single structure.
While reaffirming its full commitment to unity, GMT clarified its status as a national movement with structures across all 36 states and the FCT, coordinated by Hon. Bisi Yusuf and headquartered in Lagos.
The group emphasized that it is not an offshoot of Ondo State politics and draws membership from across political and regional lines.
“It is not unusual for different support groups to emerge ahead of elections. In fact, they have historically played pivotal roles in mobilizing voters,” the statement noted, citing groups like LACO-FS, O Datiwa Group, Aketi Mandate, SWAGGA, and others that were instrumental in previous electoral victories both at the state and national levels.
GMT urged its members and coordinators not to be distracted by misinformation but to focus on mobilizing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and promoting his administration’s achievements at the grassroots level.
The group also encouraged Governor Aiyedatiwa to continue prioritizing infrastructure, party involvement in governance and the completion of ongoing projects started by his late predecessor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
These efforts, it said, would enhance the party’s image and help secure future electoral victories.
The statement concluded by announcing plans for a courtesy visit to the governor by GMT’s leadership in the state, ahead of a visit by the group’s national leadership to Ondo.
