National Body of Universities Alumni disowns CAANU, Prof Tijani Mora

In a press release signed by
MR. ODINAKACHUKWU C. UKABAM, the Public Relations Officer of the Association and a copy obtained by SUNSHINETRUTH, Fasakin said CAANU is an illegitimate representative body of alumni associations in Nigeria, noting that the Association of Nigeria Universities Alumni (ANUA) is the only registered body.

Fasakin said, “the attention of the leadership of the Association of Nigeria Universities Alumni under the leadership of Dr. Stephen Olawale Fasakin has been drawn to a statement credited to one Prof. Ahmed Tijani Mora speaking on behalf of one unregistered group of persons going by the name Conference of Alumni Associations of Nigerian Universities (CAANU) saying that CAANU is the only legitimate representative body of alumni associations in Nigeria.

“The statement was reportedly made on (MONDAY 12TH JULY, 2021) during a meeting of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.

“This is to inform the general public that the statement credited to prof. AHMED Tijani Mora is most unfortunate as it is incorrect, untrue and an attempt to dress CAANU and its constituents in borrowed robes.

“The Statement reads, “For the avoidance of doubt, while appreciating the fact that no organization may lay claim to being the exclusive body that can represent the interests of alumni associations in Nigeria, we are also happy to inform you that by the records of the Corporate Affairs Commission as at the last time we checked, Association of Nigeria Universities Alumni is the only lawfully registered association for the protection of the interests of alumni associations in Nigeria having so registered with the Commission on (24 August, 2020)with Registration Number (RC CAC/IT/NO 150336).

“Again, we are minded to let members of the public know that CAANU and its sponsors have previously tried to cow our association into silence using the regulator, Corporate Affairs Commission only for their efforts to fail when we joined issues with them and answered the regulator’s query.

“Thus, the unfortunate, incorrect and untrue statement referenced above is just a continuation of CAANU’s unlawful desire to garb itself with a status it does not have.

“We therefore advise that members of the public should not be deceived by the spurious claim of Prof Ahmed Tijani Mora, CAANU and its other sponsors. More particularly, we wish to inform the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities not to be deceived by the spurious claims of PROF. AHMED TIJJANI MORA, CAANU and its other sponsors.

“We shall on our part continue to advance the cause and best interests of alumni associations of universities in Nigeria without reproach,” Fasakin said.
