Legacy of ex-IGP, late Solomon Arase will endure for generations —Ehindero mourns

Following the recent death of one of his successors in office, a Former Inspector-General of Police, Otunba Sunday Gabriel Ehindero, has described the late Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, Inspector-General of Police (Rtd.), as an exceptional officer whose legacy in policing will endure for generations.

In an emotional tribute, Ehindero recalled Arase’s uncommon dedication and loyalty during his service as Principal Staff Officer (PSO), noting that unlike the usual practice where a new IG would appoint a different aide, Arase’s exceptional qualities made him indispensable to successive police chiefs.

“Solomon was so outstanding that he served under my predecessor, Tafa Balogun, myself, and later Mr. Mike Okiro. As my PSO between 2005 and 2007, he epitomised humility, loyalty, and integrity,” Ehindero stated.

He praised Arase for towering above his contemporaries, describing him as “a man of courage, conviction, and principle action” who contributed significantly to reforms in police investigation and left behind enduring legacies through his publications and the Solomon Ehigiator Arase Foundation.

The retired IGP noted that Arase, who hailed from Owan West in Edo State, rose through sheer hard work and determination to become the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police, stressing that he was a detribalized officer who earned the respect of both superiors and subordinates.

“He mentored young officers, was generous at heart, and impacted countless lives in service and beyond,” Ehindero added.

Quoting from the scriptures, Ehindero encouraged Arase’s family to find strength in God, praying for the repose of his soul and the fortitude for his wife, children, and relatives to bear the loss.

“Solomon has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. He may be gone from this earthly realm, but his memory will live with us at sunrise and sunset,” he concluded.
