Teaching Job racketeering: Ondo Assembly moves to probe perpetrators

SUBEB JOB RACKETEERING:ONDO ASSEMBLY SETS UP AD_HOC COMMITTEE FOR INVESTIGATION.

Worried by the recent allegation of job racketeering at the Ondo State Universal Basic Board (SUBEB),the State House of Assembly has constituted a 7_man committee to investigate the matter with a promise to bring perpetrators to face the full wrath of the law.

The Speaker of the House,Rt.Hon(Chief) Olamide Oladiji is the Chairman,while his deputy,Rt.Hon.Gbegudu Ololade would be the vice Chairman.Other members include: Honourable (Barr) Abitogun Rotimi, Honourable Kolawole Ologede, Honourable (Prophetess)Atinuke Witherspoon, Honourable (Dr)Chris Ogunlana.The Clerk of the House,(Barr) Benjamin Jaiyeola will serve as the Secretary of the committee.

This was made known at a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House,Rt.Hon(Chief) Olamide Oladiji at the House of Assembly Complex in Akure today.

Describing the unfortunate development as a serious embarrassment to the State, the Speaker stressed the need to defend the interest of the job seekers by ensuring that justice is served.

Presenting the resolutions of the House, Oladiji assured that all would be done to ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet, saying that the lawmakers would not fold their arms and allow fraudsters to undermine public trust in the State.

According to him, the House had received several petitions in this regard, just as all would be done to ensure that perpetrators are punished under the law and also guide against future occurrences.

Earlier, the House Majority leader, Honourable (Chief) Olatunji Oshati had moved the motion for the matter to be discussed under matter of urgent public importance and seconded by the lawmaker representing Ese Odo Constituency, Honourable (Primate), Oluwatoyin Halen.

Describing the matter as worrisome,the Deputy Speaker of the House,Rt.Hon.
Gbegudu Ololade said Ondo State is known for uprightness, warning that if not properly addressed,it may affect the image of the State.

Also in their contributions,the lawmaker representing Akoko North -East Constituency, Honourable Oluwatoyin Japhet and that of Akure South 2, Honourable (Barr)Oluwarotimi Abitogun, advised job seekers to be vigilant and careful not to play into the hands of fraudsters.

The high powered committee is expected to submit its report in the next three weeks.

In another vein,a bill for a law to amend the Ondo State Public Audit Amendment Law,2021 and Other Matters Incidental Thereto or Connected Therewith passed the second reading and was committed to the appropriate committee for scrutiny.
