Education in the earliest days in Nigeria started as informal. It relied on the words of the mouths, from family storytellers to community griots. Then came the formal which confines learners in the four walls of the classroom, with some teachers who exonerate rote learning, and authoritarian rule. There were limited materials and textbooks, and challenges abound greatly.
There came a shift with the innovation of technology. It brought about the democratization of information, especially learning resources. Education became student-centred and online Education changed the narrative. However, even with the development so far, education in Nigeria still faces some challenges, among which The Daramola Adesuyi Foundation (DAF) is set to join the tackle through PrepTutor, a digital learning platform designed to change how students prepare for examinations.
To be candid, the four-walls learning is monotonous for both the students, and teachers, these days. While some Nigerian teachers run the rat races to receive their salaries, they forget about true impacts in the lives of the students. PrepTutor makes it easy. PrepTutor combines interactive video lessons, quizzes, and round-the-clock access to study resources to give students a flexible and engaging learning experience. PrepTutor breaks lessons into smaller, easy-to-understand units, enhanced with diagrams, animations, and real-life examples. By doing so, it helps students learn faster and with more confidence.
“Study Smarter” is the chorus in PrepTutor’s evergreen masterpiece. With a gamified approach where students earn points for watching lessons, maintaining study streaks, and completing exercises, it becomes obvious that PrepTutor has gone far into the minds of Nigerian children and youths and given them the kola in the wrap of a candy. These points can later be redeemed for rewards, including free mobile data. With this, “Prep makes learning feel like play,” and makes it to inspire, instead of making the students to expire.
PrepTutor was built with Nigerian students in mind. Its lessons adhere to the national curriculum and are tailored specifically for WAEC, NECO, and JAMB exams. The videos are taught by local teachers, many of whom are actual WAEC and NECO examiners. This means students learn exactly what is needed to excel. The platform’s developers also recognized that a stable internet connection is not a given, so they designed it to work smoothly on mobile phones, even with slower data. This makes PrepTutor a reliable tool for students everywhere, including those in rural areas.
Designed by educators from Nigeria’s top training colleges and universities, PrepTutor supports learners at every level. It provides primary and junior secondary students with clear, relatable lessons in core subjects to build confidence and skills, while senior secondary students benefit from advanced lessons that break down complex topics for exam success. With over 400 videos and more being added, it serves as a comprehensive learning companion for students nationwide.
Building on its success since 2022, the Daramola Adesuyi Foundation is adding PrepTutor to its roster of impactful, SDG-aligned projects in education, health, and community support. The organization’s foundational effort, Prep Edutech, is an online platform that currently serves over 700 subscribers with content designed to prepare them for major Nigerian examinations (WAEC, NECO, and JAMB). Beyond the tech platform, the Foundation has achieved key milestones, including guiding over 300 students through dedicated career counselling and making resources available to vulnerable learners via a scholarship scheme.
The DAF Foundation’s community development work includes partnering with the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education to reintegrate out-of-school children. Its initiatives also include a mobile clinic in Ondo East that provided medical services, eye tests, and 500 eyeglasses to over 3,000 people. The foundation has repaired key access roads, donated playground equipment, and run a youth empowerment program that has trained over 200 participants in diverse skills, providing them with laptops and tools. These comprehensive efforts were recognized with the Best Philanthropy Award in Basic Education from the Ondo Universal Basic Education Authority.
Launched on the 29th of September, 2025, PrepTutor has expanded into a full-featured learning platform, offering students over 400 interactive video lessons, STEM-focused tutorials, and practical exam readiness tools, all powered by a motivating reward system. Launching under the theme “Education in the Digital Age,” Project Lead Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akinola-Idowu reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to collaborating closely with government, NGOs, and communities to make quality education more accessible and genuinely engaging for every student.
The resounding consensus was one of hope and progress. As Hon. Tomide Akinribido, SITA Chairman, rightly noted, this project isn’t just a local fix; it’s a significant step toward realizing Ondo State’s broader ICT vision. Ultimately, as Dr. Funmilola Mabel Ojo highlighted, embracing tools like PrepTutor is about more than just technology. It’s about creating a more engaging, accessible, and effective educational space, fundamentally breaking down old barriers and transforming the future of learning for every child in the state.
