INTELLIGENCE-LED POLICING: ONDO POLICE BURSTS STOLEN MOTORCYCLE SYNDICATE, ARRESTS THREE SUSPECTS IN ONDO TOWN

In demonstration of the innovative, intelligence-driven, and people-centered policing philosophy of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, operatives of the Yaba Division under the Ondo State Police Command have successfully recovered a stolen motorcycle and arrested three suspects connected with an inter-state stolen motorcycle syndicate operating across Osun, Ondo, and Edo States.

On 9th October 2025, one Tosin, male, from Ile-Ife, Osun State, reported that a red Bajaj motorcycle he had given to one Tope, male, also of Ile-Ife, was snatched by unknown persons, leaving the rider hospitalized. Intelligence gathered subsequently revealed that the stolen motorcycle had been moved into Ondo State.

Acting promptly on the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Yaba Division, led his operatives in a coordinated operation. Through forensic investigation and analysis of digital/cyber footprints, the team traced and recovered the stolen motorcycle and arrested three suspects — Uche Unwankwo, Afolabi Olabisi, and Taye Akinmolayan.

During interrogation, the female suspect, Taye Akinmolayan, initially gave several conflicting statements, claiming at different times to have purchased the motorcycle for ₦530,000, ₦650,000, and ₦970,000 respectively, before eventually confessing to her role in the crime.

Further intelligence gathered by investigators revealed that the rider had in fact been attacked and forcibly dispossessed of the motorcycle before it was ridden down to Ondo town. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects belong to a well-coordinated syndicate specializing in the theft, movement, and resale of stolen motorcycles across the Osun–Ondo–Edo State axis.
Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.

The case has been transferred to the Tactical Investigation and Response Squad (TIRS) for further investigation, while the injured rider is still recuperating.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, commended the officers of Yaba Division for their professionalism and timely response. He also lauded the Inspector General of Police for his visionary and reform-oriented leadership, which continues to enhance proactive policing and strengthen public confidence in the Force.

The Command reassures residents of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state while urging members of the public to remain law-abiding and to continue supporting the police in the fight against crime.
