In a landmark step toward expanding sustainable energy access and sustainable water source, boosting economic growth around the local government area, the Executive Chairman of Akoko North East Local Government Area, Alh. Mohammed Mutiu Olawale, has facilitated the installation of a 100-kilowatt solar mini-grid system valued at ₦500 million and a 10,000 litres capacity solar borehole, bringing both reliable and clean water and electricity to parts of the communities within the local government area.

This initiative further cements the region’s growing leadership in renewable energy adoption as a beneficiary of one of the only two mini-grids designated to the South West region.

The solar mini-grid, scheduled to be installed tomorrow following successful site clearance and delivery of Solar equipment at the Local Government Secretariat today, is designed to deliver uninterrupted power to households, small businesses, and healthcare facilities.

With its full coverage expected to extend to neighboring communities, the project aims to address long-standing power shortages that have hindered productivity, education, and healthcare services for years.

This initiative is made possible through strategic partnerships with Cloud Energy and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), ensuring strong technical expertise, sustainable funding, and active community participation from planning to execution.

The Chairman expressed his gratitude to Cloud Energy and the Rural Electrification Agency for their unwavering support and technical collaboration, noting that their commitment has been instrumental in turning the vision of reliable and clean electricity for the community into a reality.

Furthermore, he emphasized that such partnerships are key to driving further infrastructure development and improving the standard of living in Akoko North East.
