The lawmaker representing Akoko South-West/Akoko South-East Federal Constituency, Hon. Adegboyega Adefarati, has distributed laptops to 50 youths and provided ₦100,000 each to 100 widows as part of efforts to uplift vulnerable groups in the constituency.
The intervention came just 24 hours after the House of Representatives member donated a Toyota Hiace ambulance to Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, to strengthen the institution’s emergency response capacity.
Speaking at the empowerment programme held in commemoration of his 60th birthday, Adefarati said the gesture was driven by his commitment to improving the welfare of his constituents.
He explained that prioritising the needs of the people was more important to him than throwing a lavish celebration to mark his milestone birthday.
He said, “I had planned to have a lavish and decent celebration, but after thinking it through, I decided to use the money to empower widows.
“I believe we must take care of the vulnerable in society. Instead of spending money on parties, inviting musicians and all that, I chose to give to the people. They will appreciate it more than any celebration. That is the motive behind this gesture.
“I want to thank Him for allowing me to attain this age. I have gone through many ups and downs, even in my political career.”
Adefarati urged the beneficiaries to utilise the items responsibly, while also calling on constituents to support the transformative initiatives of President Bola Tinubu.
Reacting to the development, the Ondo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, hailed the lawmaker’s performance, describing it as impressive.
Adetimehin said, “He has done well within a short period of time.
“As the chairman of the ruling party and a mentee of his father, I can say he has performed incredibly well within just two years.
“Only yesterday, he bought an ambulance to support medical care in his community. He also laid the foundation for the construction of an area office for security agencies, and he also donated vehicle to enhance their operations.
“In the area of youth empowerment, he has done a lot, offering bursary awards, and other forms of support. This shows he understands the needs of his people.”
