Thirty-eight abducted worshippers from Christ Apostolic Church CAC Eruku, Ekiti LGA, Kwara State, have regained their freedom.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed their release in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye. According to the governor, the victims were freed after several days of intense efforts by security agencies and government representatives.
The Kwara State Government credited President Bola Tinubu’s hands-on intervention, revealing that he personally coordinated actions that led to the successful rescue. The President also cancelled his planned trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa to focus on the security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi.
The governor extended appreciation to the Office of the National Security Adviser, DSS, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, and others for their roles. He also thanked religious leaders, community members, and all Kwarans for their support throughout the crisis.
Recall that bandits attacked the church last Tuesday, killing three people and abducting thirty-eight worshippers. The attackers initially demanded ₦3 billion ransom before later reducing it to ₦760 million.
During a service held today, church leaders encouraged members to show resilience and gratitude despite the trauma. The presiding pastor described the ordeal as a test of faith and thanked God for the victims’ safe return.
