Ondo govt goes tough on Keke Riders, bans road side Trading

PRESS RELEASE

ONDO STATE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT WARNS TRADERS, MARKET WOMEN AND COMMERCIAL OPERATORS AGAINST OBSTRUCTING MAJOR ROADS

The Ondo State Ministry of Transport has issued a strong warning to traders, market women and commercial operators who engage in activities that obstruct major roads across the state, noting that such acts contribute to traffic congestion and pose serious dangers to road users.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, Hon. Olugbenga Omole, the Ministry cautioned traders and residents in Oja Oba (Akure), Sabo Market (Ondo), Ikare, Akungba, the Ore Overhead Bridge, and other major towns to immediately desist from selling goods or drying food items such as coco- garri, elubo and other commodities on highways and designated road corridors.

The statement further condemned the indiscriminate actions of some commercial tricycle operators (Keke Maruwa), particularly those who have converted strategic locations such as Oba Adesida Road, Arakale Road, Alagbaka axis and ShopRite area into illegal parks and roadside markets. Hon. Omole warned that any tricycle operator found violating these directives would have their vehicle impounded without hesitation.

He emphasized that law enforcement officers have been fully mobilized to enforce compliance across the state.

According to him, any activity that obstructs free vehicular movement or violates traffic regulations will no longer be tolerated, as it endangers the safety and well-being of motorists and pedestrians.

The Special Adviser also commended Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his outstanding efforts in rehabilitating dilapidated roads and constructing new ones across the state. He noted that the governor’s commitment has significantly improved transportation and mobility for residents.

Hon. Omole concluded by wishing all Ondo State residents a peaceful and joyous Yuletide celebration in advance.
