Just in: Ondo declares Jan. 2nd Holiday, approves new monarchs

The Ondo State government has announced Friday, January 2nd , 2026 as work free day .

The Head of Service, Pastor Bayo Philip who made the announcement said it was approved by the state executive council to enable workers to travel back to their duty posts after the New Year celebrations.

He said that official duties would resume fully on Monday, January 5, 2026 commencing with first workday prayer session of the year.

In another development. the State Executive Council has also announced series of key approvals affecting infrastructure development, traditional leadership, as it held its final meeting for the year 2025.

The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Mr Abiola Olawoye said the projects such as the construction of roads at Sabomi,Ese-Odo reflected the administration’s move at addressing infrastructure and enhancing quality of life of residents.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro disclosed that the Council approved the appointment of His Royal Highness, Owei Kekemeke as the pioneer Amananawe of Agadgba Obon in Ese Odo council and issuance of warrant letters for the appointment of a new Alade Okun of Alade Idanre.
