Ondo: Tragedy as Man slumps, dies while crossing road

A middle-aged man, identified simply as Goke, has died after slumping while attempting to cross a road in the Ogbonmo area of OwoOndo State.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning in Owo Local Government Area and drew the attention of residents and passers-by in the area.

Eyewitnesses said the man suddenly collapsed by the roadside, prompting people to gather and make efforts to identify him and locate his relatives.

A video of the incident, later shared on social media, showed the deceased lying on the ground with an Android phone and a pharmacy receipt beside him.

In the footage, a narrator suggested that the man had just purchased drugs before attempting to cross the road when he slumped.

The narrator added that efforts to identify the man were unsuccessful, as no one was able to unlock his phone or recognise him at the scene.

The incident has since triggered mixed reactions online, with many users expressing concern over the rising cases of sudden deaths.

Confirming the development, the Ondo State Police Command said it received a report of a lifeless body lying on the road opposite Chinare Pharmacy in Owo.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Kazeem, said operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, adding that the body had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre morgue in Owo, while investigations were ongoing.
