As politics of the 2023 kicked off gradually, traditional rulers in Ondo state have declared that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has leadership qualities to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 and make the country works effectively.
They said this during a visit to their respective palaces by the delegates of South West Agenda 2023 (SWAGA) led by Senator Dayo Adeyeye, who is the National Coordinator of the group.
Senator Adeyeye while stating the reason for the visit, said they are moving around to get support for the candidacy of the former Governor of Lagos state.
He stressed that Tinubu has always been the one spending for people but those he has made are now ready to spend on his behalf.
“We are here because of the coming 2023 General election to solicit support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The APC, during its foundation, has agreed to allow the South take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. So, we the people of South West region must now start working to ensure our interest is protected.
“Our interest is Bola Tinubu. We have already visited some palaces to preach this agenda and the Monarchs are happy with the move.
“Tinubu is not aware of our moves but we have weighed him and we see him as the best option to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. So we want him to contest” Adeyeye said.
Other members of the SWAGA delegates include Senator Adesoji Akanbi, National Deputy Coordinator of SWAGA; Former SSG in Ondo state and SWAGA state coordinator, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde; Former National Assembly members and party leaders across the states in South West.
At the palace of Abodi of Ikale, Oba Babatunde Faduyile, said Nigeria needs Tinubu because he is a ‘maker of leaders’ and leadership is what the country needs more at this time.
He said Tinubu has shown his worth with what he did with Lagos and he is needed to replicate the same feat as the President of Nigeria.
According to him, “We have seen what Tinubu has done in Lagos. He has raised many leaders we’ve never believed can rise.
“His type is what we want in Nigeria. He raised so many leaders as a Governor. So, if he rules Nigeria, more leaders will emerge.”
The Monarch prayed that the efforts of the team will not be in vain.
Speaking in the venue, the Odogbo of Ode-Omi in Irele local government area of Ondo state, Oba J. T. Dahunsi also noted that the Yoruba people are the factor still keeping Nigeria as one entity.
The Monarch said many Nigerians criticized the former President of the country for not giving the tribe a preferential treatment but Obasanjo was only showing the Omoluabi nature of an average Yoruba person.
He said, “the Yoruba race has the best hands to rule the country but Tinubu is the best of the lots. We are very happy with this your move.
“The Yoruba people are known as Omoluabi. The principle of Omoluabi entails Equity, fairness and justice. If Tinubu rules, the country will be more united as every region will get whatever they deserve.” He concluded.
At the palace of Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Kiladejo, stressed that Tinubu has earned his respect for all he has done.
Oba Kiladejo said, “I give it to him. From what we have seen, he is loved by the people. I wish him well.
“Other Yoruba persons that will be contesting are also our Sons and daughters. My people loves Tinubu but we urge the Yoruba people to speak with one voice” He said.
