15 Students bag First Class at Achievers University, Owo

15 out of 339 graduating students have bagged first class from Achievers University, Owo in Ondo State as the institution sets to hold its 10th Convocation ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof Samuel Olabanji Aje, who stated this while addressing a press conference to herald the 10th convocation ceremony of the institution, explained that a total of 225 fresh students have secured the three years scholarship programme offered by the University.

Prof Olabanji Aje, said all the students worked hard to achieve the feat, adding that the school does not award grade to students but give them what they worked for.

He said students the departments where there were no first class graduates would work hard to achieve it in the nearest future.

The breakdown of the students who graduated with first class are from Microbiology (1), Industrial Chemistry (1), Computer Science (3), Medical Laboratory Science (2), Accounting (4), Business Administration (2), Criminology & Security Studies (1) and International Relations (1).

The students would enjoy free tuition free for three academic session in courses such as Accounting, Political Scieñce, Industrial Chemistry, Business Administration, Plant Science and Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Economics, Sociology and Geology.

The VC noted that the scholarship programme was part of the university’s Corporate Social Responsibility to enable indigent students have access to quality education.

Prof Aje, expressed optimism that the scholarship would impact positively on families of the beneficiaries.

He said 15 graduands got First Class, 167 had Second Class Upper, 131 made Second Class Lower while 26 got Third Class out of the 339 graduands to be conferred first degree.

Prof Aje stated that the convocation lecture titled, ‘Reality of University Programme Education Objectives: Post Convocation Life” would be delivered on Friday 23rd April, 2021 by Prof. Joseph Odigure, Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Council for the Registration of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) while some capital projects would be inaugurated at the university.

He said honorary degree would be conferred on Justice Adesuyi Olateru-Olagbegi, Prof Joseph Odigure and Mr. Foluso Falaye.

His words, “Many private universities are struggling to survive in Nigeria which was why many did not believe in our scholarship programme.

“We are convinced education is the key to development so we extend our CSR to granting scholarships to students.”

The Vice Chancellor said, “OUR PROJECTION INTO THE FUTURE We are grateful to God for the little beginning and His faithfulness to us in our 13 years of existence, the steady progress as well as the good neighbourliness With our host communities.

“We shall remain focused in our pursuit to deepen knowledge and research, and in attracting development in the areas of Medicine, and Aeronautics and Aviation Technology.

“Discussions have gone far with our partners in establishing a College of Medicine as well as a College of Aeronautics and Aviation Technology in not-too-distant future. We covet your prayers and cooperation in achieving our corporate goals and objectives,” said Prof Aje.
