Akeredolu suspends Association over death of fish seller in Akure

Following a peaceful protest a protest by members of Fish Sellers’ Association of Nigeria, Akure Chapter on Tuesday in the Ondo State capital, against the alleged maladministration of the leadership of the association, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has ordered the suspension of the leadership and activities of the association.

The protester who marched to the governor’s office, had called on the state governor Mr Rotimi Akeredolu to disband the leadership of the association in the state.

They alleged that the association’s leadership was inflicting hardship on the members instead of solving their business problems.

According to them, the association lost one of its members as a result of the alleged tyrannical administration of the current leadership of the association in the state.

The protesters said deceased was not allowed to buy her fish from the cool room because she could not balance her remaining N1000 fee for purchase of registration form .

They said as she saw the task force coming, she went and hide under a dilapidated building which collapsed on her and she passed away as a result.

One of the protesters, who identified herself as Mrs Blessing Johnson, said the actions of the union’s leadership had become unbearable to the members of the union.

Addressing the protesters, Akeredolu who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, assured them that the government would get to the root of the matter.

It was gathered that the government thereafter ordered for the temporary suspension of the activities of the leadership of the union in the state.
