There is an anxiety in parts of Ondo state as residents stay indoor even as Nigeria commemorates democracy day today June 12, 2021, major Streets in Akure, Ondo state capital are deserted with shops and markets not opening for business.
Our reporter who went round Akure metropolis observed that even though it was a weekend, the popular oba Adesida, Arakale, Ondo, Nepa, Hospital and Oyemekun roads did not record influx of both human and Vehicular movements.
Similar situation was recorded at Alagbaka, Oda and Fiwasaye areas as only few vehicles were seeing plying the roads.
It was observed that Residents of Akure are staying at home today even without a sit-at-home order from government or security agencies.
The people are apprehensive based on information that some groups of people would be storming the city to stage a protest against all forms of violence in the country and that the protest could be hijacked by hoodlums thereby causing mayhem.
Ikare and other akoko major towns are equally deserted as residents stayed indoors with shops and markets under lock.
Another reporter who also was went round some major roads such as Arigidi, Semusemu, Jubilee Ugbe among others observed that all the roads were deserted.
The story is the same in Owo Town as both human and Vehicular movements are not sighted even as markets remain closed
Public places including markets and motorparks in Ore, Ondo state were also abandoned by residents.
It gathered that residents had engaged in panic buying in the last few days to stock up their homes with foodstuffs for the fear of a possible mayhem which my result from a planned protest by some agitators.
Meanwhile, heavily-armed soldiers are patrolling major streets in Ore apparently to ward off any criminal activity.
