Our position on AAUA VC Race —Akoko Youths

A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE EXECUTIVES OF AKOKO YOUTHS FORUM (AYF) ON THE AAUA VICE CHANCELLORSHIP RACE

The attention of Akoko Youths Forum, the umbrella body for all the Youths in Akoko land which comprises of four Local Governments has been drawn to the lingering crisis and perceived deadlock that have rocked the race to the emergence of a new and substantive Vice Chancellor for Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko as the current Chief of the institution, Prof Olugbenga Ige had been in acting capacity in the last one and half years.

While this Forum is not willing to drag it self to the muddy and murky waters of hearsays, unnecessary alarms, and ‘noise’ or rely on evidence and judgments of the social media and it attendant controversies on this issue, the Association is left with no option than to subject itself to the pressures of all Youths in Akokoland on whose mandates we stand to make a statement and position known on the matter.

After an emergency Executive meeting and session, the Forum came up with the below resolutions;

That the Forum will never support any attempt in some quarters to sacrifice merits, excellence, finesse, transcendence, abilities, capacities and capabilities that have earned Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko one of the best State Universities in Nigeria in the last two decades on the altar of mere mediocrity, preferential treatment, favoritism or nepotism. As an association whose hallmarks is impartiality and objectivity, the association dissociate itself from such mischievous agendum.

That one of the agitations of Akoko Youths is that – since the establishment of this prestigious citadel of learning, cited and situated in the heart of Akoko land, no ‘son of the soil’ had ever emerged or occupied the exalted, covetous and plum seat of Vice Chancellorship despite their repeated bid and applications cum sterling performances during the screening processes. But lack of political will and political patronage had prevented and barred them from this top job.

The Forum hereby urge the Visitor to the Institution, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu  to look into the merits of this allegations and give Akoko land whose hospitality had birthed a friendly environment for the institution to survive. It is a fact that there is merit in zoning.

That the Forum will never again watch while the first becomes the last and the last becomes the first. That the result of the present screening process be followed to the letter. The Forum also urges the Visitor to the School, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu whose antecedents had been impartiality, neutrality, equality and probity not to submit to the pressures and antics of political jobbers.

That all Youths of Akoko land should remain calm while we await announcement. The Forum has confidence that the Executive Governor of Ondo State will not fail Akoko people this time around. The Forum will never support any youth or group of Youths who result into violence on this matter. All Youths must wait for directive from the leadership of the body.
